On Saturday, James Buchanan, Sr. died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the assault at his residence on March 13. Investigators are continuing to diligently work on this case and will present their latest findings to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office, who will review the case for the filing of additional charges.
James Buchanan, Jr. remains incarcerated in the Boone County Jail on a $1-million-dollar bond and has been charged with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony. Any additional charges will be determined and filed by the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.
On March 13, at approximately 6:54 p.m., officers with the Lebanon Police responded to an address in the 200 block of Terrace Lane on an unresponsive person. The 911 caller told the Boone County Communications Operator that she believed her son had killed her husband. Officers arrived to find 80-year-old Lebanon resident James Buchanan, Sr. unresponsive in the residence and 48-year-old Lebanon resident James Buchanan, Jr. walking in the residence.
Officers provided medical aid to James Buchanan, Sr. until the arrival of Lebanon Fire Department and Boone County Emergency Medical Services. Mr. Buchanan, Sr. was transported to Witham Hospital and later transported to an Indianapolis area hospital in Critical Condition with life-threatening injuries.
During the course of the investigation, James Buchanan, Jr. was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Lebanon Police Department to be interviewed by Detectives. Mr. Buchanan, Jr. was eventually lodged in the Boone County Jail on preliminary charges of Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony. Formal charges will be determined by the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.
