Indiana 4th District Congressman Todd Rokita was in Frankfort on Wednesday not as a politician, but as a speaker at the annual Clinton County Veterans Day ceremony held at Veterans Park.
“I’m here to celebrate Veterans Day and that’s the message I wanted to convey,” said Rokita. “This isn’t Memorial Day. Memorial Day has its place and we memorialized the ultimate sacrifices that were made. But, this is a celebration and honor of the service and sacrifice that certain fellow citizens gave.”
Rokita was the special guest speaker at the event which he said had a specific message he wanted to deliver.
“If we really want to honor that service and sacrifice, we ought to practice what we preach,” said Rokita. “By that I mean we ought to practice the ideas and ideals found in our Constitution because ultimately that is what they (veterans) swore to uphold. All veterans swore to uphold the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.”
Other highlights included Millard See of the Sons of the American Legion Post 12 reading a list of those veterans who lost their lives in the past year. Frankfort Community Public Library Director Greg Williamson gave the Veterans Day Address and music was supplied by the Clinton Central High School Band.
