The investigation continues into a fatal accident on the Mulberry-Jefferson Road in Clinton County Monday afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the Mulberry-Jefferson Road near County Road 600 West where a pickup truck and a SUV collided resulting in the death of Kari Warthan, 32, of Mulberry, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary reports say Warthan, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was traveling southeast when she apparently lost control of her vehicle, overcorrected and then went into the opposite lane where she was hit on the driver’s side by Donnie Ely, 61, of Mulberry. Ely was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette for injuries on his face and arms. No further information was available on his condition. The road was closed to traffic for a little over two hours and reopened around 5:15 p.m.
